So many of you are in the early stages of planning your wedding. The excitement, the thrill, the confusion… so many feelings wrapped up into one. What color to choose, which venue, what date… MY BRIDESMAIDS!
That last part should be very exciting for you. Your tribe are those that will stand up next to you and hold your hand while you navigate this wedding planning roller coaster.

What should be an exciting time though, has left a sour taste in the mouths of so many of you. The people you expected to be in your corner are now the one giving you grief. They can’t afford the dress, they don’t like the hairstyle, they look better in blue but you want them in pink, complaining why do we ned to have a bridal shower AND a bachelorette. So many variables. It’s bad enough that some of our family want to give you grief, but now your friends too!!!
No one knows your friend better than you.
LISTEN… and listen carefully. I understand that you feel a sense of obligation to put your girlfriend for the past 15 years into your wedding. BUT you DON’T HAVE TO. No one knows your friend better than you. You know if she doesn’t like to be second fiddle. YOU know that she ONLY thinks of herself first, second and third. YOU know she just lost the job and is financially in a bind right now. YOU know she is a mean girl. YOU KNOW! On one of the most important occasions of your life, you want this to be a happy occasion. Not one where you have to manage everyone else’s emotional tantrum at your happiness. So make them a guest…PERIOD!
There are ways to recognize the people in your life that hold a special place besides putting them in your bridal party. For instance:
- Put them at a VIP table
- Give them a special flower
- Ask them to wear a special color and give them a nice recognition in your thank you speech
- Give them another task that they are incapable of messing up
Be My Guest
…anything besides making them a bridesmaids. You have options. So take it from me, the last thing you need to do is set yourself up for disappointments on YOUR wedding day because an unfriendly friend can’t get it together. Let them just Be A Guest
