Planning: Let’s get this Party Started!

Are you Team (Wedding) Band or Team (Wedding) DJ?

Based on the response from my JunePlumm Event’s fan page, Team Band is certainly getting more love. So let’s take a moment to examine both options:

Team Band Pro’s:

  • The excitement of the live music
  • Bands/Band leaders are very interactive with guests and can get everyone involved in the performance. Sing-alongs , getting in the mix with the guests… they can certainly get it started.
  • The sound quality… VERY sharp
  • A live singer can take your favorite tune and change the tempo and feel to be more suitable to your event / style
  • Are you having a 60’s style wedding? There is a band for that! 

Team Band Con’s

  • We mentioned the sound quality as a pro.. but the sound volume can definitely be a con. 
  • Cost: you will find some of the better bands come at a price. Most wedding bands start at $2,000 – $3,000+ for a 4-piece band and goes up from there. Remember popularity, size and geographical region will seriously impact your cost.
  • Wedding Bands have more than one member. So you will have to account for the space to accommodate all the members and equipment and for meals (remember your vendors need to eat)
  • Band members need breaks, and unless they take breaks in stages. Be prepared for a cd or recording of some sort
  • Request are a hit or miss. If they do not know the tune, you will not hear it (so get your song list ready for your band in advance)
Team DJ Pro’s:
  • If your favorite song is “Single Ladies” by Beyonce, then you will hear “Single Ladies” BY Beyonce
  • The cost, a good Wedding DJ can cost anywhere for $600 to $1,400+ depending on choice of package and perks
  • Wedding DJ’s occupy less space than a Wedding band
  • The arsenal of music is far greater than that of a band
  • Because DJ’s tend to travel in packs (sometimes 2) breaks will not be as broken as with a band
  • DJ’s can read the crowd and quickly change pace and tempo to get people on or off their feet
Team DJ Con’s:
  • For goodness sake, make sure your Wedding DJ dresses like a professional and not like he or she is going to the laundry mat (believe me I have seen things)
  • DJ’s can have a one track mind. If they like to play rock music, no matter how much the crowd is not into rock music…they will play ROCK MUSIC. 
  • There is nothing worse than a DJ with no energy and umph…NOTHING. Choose wisely
There is no fool proof, quick fix, one perfect answer in what YOU should choose for YOUR wedding day. It’s your wedding so you make the rules BUT before you choose ask yourself this:
  • What is your entertainment budget?
  • Do you prefer clubs or the symphony?
  • What is the formality of your event?
  • How much (venue) space are you working with?
  • Did I mention what’s your budget (yeah…well in case you missed it I am asking again)
and remember: If they see you dance…THEY will dance so HAVE FUN!

Pretty Little Things: Sexy Little Bride

Most brides consider the bridal gown as the most important outfit you will put on. While that is true, what about the “other” important outfit you will put on. The honeymoon night is supposed to be the first of the most romantic nights you spend together as husband and wife. So why not make the most of it.

…comfortable, and enjoy the cherry on top of an amazing wedding night! *Wink*

Pretty Little Things: Mix it Up

On my wish list right now…and UNTIL I get one in my hands:

Custom Designed mixer. 
I may have mentioned one time that I am a better baker than I am cooker and it is so true. But think of how much better my red velvet cupcakes would be coming from one of these mixers. It’s a MUST have for any one that loves to bake. Nicole Dinardo of Un Amore Custom Designs, makes all kinds of custom designed items but these mixers have to be my faves. Check them out!

Pretty Little Things: CHARGE!

I am semi-sorta-kinda-extremely obsessed with chargers. You know what chargers are right?The bigger plate that goes under the dinner plate that is simply for decor and mostly NOT for eating off of. I love these items because it is the quickest way to dress up a table without doing a whole lot of anything. Stick a charger on the table and viola’ you are now fancy. For weddings and special events charger rentals can range from $1.50 per plate up to $10.00 per and above.

But lucky for you for every day entertaining, Party City has an awesome collection of chargers in some fun colors and patterns.

My stash from Biz Bash

Today I had the pleasure of attending Biz Bash in the city ( NYC). For those not familiar with Biz Bash, it is a trade show full or vendors in all areas catering to the special events arena. Vendors in linen, entertainment, catering, drapery…you name it, it was well represented. In addition, there are several seminars and awards specials. Unfortunately my time only allowed for me to attend the trade show but I am so glad I did or else I would have missed these:

Planning: Coming Attractions

In the next few weeks the cinemas will be bursting with wedding type movies. Take a look at some of the coming attractions that will be gracing a theater near you:
This should be a welcome reprieve for you brides. Especially if you are in the midst of making final decisions on your upcoming nuptials and are stressed to the max. Take a step back, grab some of your besties and let loose for a few hours. You know “they” say laughter is the best medicine. And what better way to lighten up about your wedding planning than to see someone else stress out about theirs (on the big screen of course).

Planning: A Taste of Brooklyn


So, perusing my blog rolls I stumbled upon the most exciting news I’ve heard in a long time. The Fabu-tastic ladies over at Nubia Mag blogged about the soon to be open Brooklyn Winery… O-M-G. Now I am by no means a wine connoisseur, however I look forward to building my appreciation in my very own Brooklyn. What I also love about this soon-to-be opened Brooklyn Winery are the event spaces (insert evil planner grin here). But enough rambling, take a look at what the ladies had to say about this winery they had to pleasure to tour: HERE

Planning: Bigger doesn’t always mean Better…

I’ve seen it too many times. A BIG cake, BIG venue, BIG guest list, BIG money, BIG linens, BIG flowers…BIG BIG BIG…but bigger doesn’t always mean better.

Think about what is important to you. What would makes YOUR event a successful event. Is it your guests on the dance floor the entire night? Is it having to usher your guests out the door at the end of the night because they just REFUSE to leave? Or is it just surveying your room and seeing all your guests enjoying non-stop good food, socializing and smiling from ear to ear. Whatever it is, aim for that. Cater to what is going to make you happiest and don’t expect that just because you have all the BIG items…your guest will think it’s a Better event.
  • If you want your guests to dance the night away…Play the music they will love
  • If you want your guest to have to kick your guests out… Keep it light hearted, fun, festive, exciting and moving
  • If you want your guests eating, smiling and socializing… Seat people together whose personalities fit. Consider a heavy hors’d’oeuvres or a multiple course menu. Keep the eye view of your seated guests open so they can socialize. Walk around greet and keep the conversations going.
You know your guests…they are no different the day of your event than they are the day before. So keep that in mind when planning your day. After all you want the BIG event and not the BIG disappointment.

Parties: A White House State of Mind…

On May 19, 2010 The President and First Lady hosted their second White House State Dinner. And what a dinner it was. Not only was this dinner frequented by political, and entertainment notables dressed in their finest but the show stopper was definitely the regal and beautiful President and his First Lady.

And let’s not overlook the dinner and decor that was spectacular. Take a look at some of the pics from the fabulous State Dinner that I attended ( in my dreams):
