Parties: Niajah is a Big Girl Now

SO, uhhhm lean in…

It is totally okay to be super duper girlie and want a super duper girlie Sweet 16 AND have JunePlumm Events plan it for you. This is what Niajah wanted and THIS is what Niajah got. I LOVED that Niajah and her mom, Natasha, were not afraid to be frilly and girlie and pink and FUN! It’s even more awesome that I learned that New Jersey has an entire music scene that I was not ready for but I can dig! (someone slide me a mix tape please). Anyway, take a look at some of the highlights of this Super Sweet 16 wonderfully captured by Amy Anaiz Photography. Just wait till you see how STUNNING Niajah looked:

Planning: When Wedding Themes Fight Back

So you have a theme. Butterflies, Tiffany & Co, Plains, Trains & Automobiles, Carnival… etc that’s fine. I love a good theme. HOWEVER, for the love of décor and the pupils in everyone’s eyes you DO NOT have to have the theme in EVERYTHING:
  • Invitations
  • Linens
  • Centerpieces
  • Favors
  • Clothes
  • Hair accessories
  • Food
  • Napkins,
  • Specialty drink
  • Chair
  • Chair Accessories
  • Lighting
…catch my drift? No? Well look at it this way, let’s say you are having a Tiffany & Co. themed wedding. WELL. don’t get:
  • Tiffany Blue table linen
  • Tiffany Blue napkins
  • Tiffany Blue chargers
  • Tiffany Blue ( dyed) flowers – they don’t grow this color
  • Tiffany Blue menu
  • Tiffany Blue diamond ribbon for décor EVERYWHERE ( because it’s classy)
  • Tiffany Blue chair cushion
  • Tiffany Blue chair sash
  • Tiffany Blue table number
  • Tiffany Blue votives
  • Tiffany Blue uplighting
Can you picture that? No really, close your eyes and try, i’ll wait……………………..……………………… hurts doesn’t it! NOW if you do something like:
  • Tiffany Blue linen
  • White napkins
  • Clear/Mirrored chargers
  • White flowers
  • White Menu with the typeface or details in Tiffany Blue
  • Black chiavari chair with white chair cushion ( why black you ask? Well.. why not. mix it up a little)
  • Tiffany Blue color table number with white details
  • Silver mercury or plain sheer votives
  • Hurricane Candles
  • Burn the Tiffany Blue diamond wrap
  • Tiffany Blue Gift box Favor
  • Amber up lighting and switch to Tiffany Blue for the tun up time.
Go ahead picture it. I’ll wait……………………..…………………………………………………………….. you see the difference. Hurts less doesn’t it.
You can get your point across without the overkill. A little bit here and a little bit there goes a long long loooooooooong way. So take it easy on the theme and the theme will be very good to you. Trust me on this:)
Happy Planning:)

Parties: Marsha + Adetunji’s Jamaican and Nigerian Wedding

Last year (yes I said last year…don’t you DARE judge me) I watched a fabulous couple exchange I Do’s at NYC’s Landmark on the Park. A beautiful venue with superb architecture and a very helpful staff. Marsha (a Jamaican Bride) and Adetunji  (A Nigerian Groom – and I didn’t even have to look up the spelling of his name) wanted a fun, culturally rich event where guests can eat well, drink well and party WELL. With clothing changes and lots of culture in the room I think we were able to accomplish exactly what they were looking for.

Look at some of my favorite shots captured by Rick Messina Photography… LOVE THEM):

My favorite part of the wedding was definitely the culture. I love when couples embrace what is true and unique about their individual and couple selves. I learned a bit of Nigerian lingo as well as had fun infusing Jamaican patois in some of the signage for the reception.

As far as JunePlumm couples go, these two are my kinda peeps and I was so happy to be a partner in creating such a splendid night.

Shout out to these Fab vendors that helped to make it all worth it!

Parties: Team MoKa…Mocktails n Munchies

Tamika & Maurice are expecting their second bambino and instead of duplicating the first HUGE shower, we “flipped the script” and planned an intimate event for just her and her girls….well kinda the DJ and photographer got a testosterone pass. but that was it! We had…

…some of her faves. The color black, balloons, and stripes

…A mash potato bar… YUMM!!!

…munchies… mini helpings of everything

…a shot of Brandy to turn your Mocktail into a Cocktail

…pops of hot pink for the baby girl on the way

…O.M.G… Red Velvet mini cakes for each and EVERY Guest.
Just plain ole’yummikins

…good wishes for when she ties the knot
…siggy drinks.

…a Brandy rose

After being a part of very big baby showers this was a nice refreshing change from the norm. Everyone had fun and we all wished the expectant mom and soon to be wife all the blessings life has to offer.

PS: I can’t wait to meet the baby. If she looks anything like her big sister she will be a little heartbreaker:)

With the help of these fantastic vendors- Mocktails ‘n’ Munchies was a success

Parties: Rion & KC – A Baby Shower fit for a “King”

I sat down with Rion and KC 4 weeks before their babyshower.  They had NO theme, NO venue & NO clue what to do. The only thing they knew was the soon to be born son will be nicknamed “KING”.  Naturally I did what I do with a lot of my couples…brainstorm…and asked “let’s just run down a list of things you both love”:

  • KC: Gold & Gambling

…amongst others. So with a bit more brainstorming and some direction,  we decided on a red and gold Royal King Theme. Take a look at some of the details from this shower:

We had a great time working with Rion and KC and am now pleased to report that baby Kairo (or Cairo) was delivered safely on Friday Novemeber 2, 2012 in Brooklyn, New York.  Mom is a trooper and dad is probably still speachless. I can’t wait to see baby pics:)

Parties: Kingston Bridal Week

Most of you know I am a JAMAICAN, born and bred and I love all things about my country. So when I heard about this Kingston’s very first Bridal Week I was overjoyed and excited and immediately started packing. Well sad to say I forgot to FIRST check the calender and when I did, I realized I had an event scheduled that same weekend…I was heart broken.

The weekend has come and gone and from what I have seen it looks to have been an amazing success. Everything from bridal wear to invites to gorgeous florals were on display. Guests of Kingston’s Bridal Week were also treated to delicious tasty delights during this inaugural event which took place at The Wyndham Hotel in Kingston…and did I mention it was in Jamaica. I mean can you say win WIN. Needless to say JunePlumm Events is NOT missing it next year.  But, until then here are a few shots from the premier event:

Can’t wait for next year.

Pretty Little Things: Romance by Candlelight

What do I love about these pictures?

The reflective vases!

Reflective Vases give your table setting a sleek modern look that is to die for. My favorite use of these magic vessels are to couple them with candles/candlelight. The reflection is multiplied and the “romance by candlelight factor” is quadrupled. It’s a quick easy way to turn up the fabulous on your tablescape. And who doesn’t want that.

Planning: A Block of Color

If you are that trendy bride that likes to make a statement then this may be for you.

The hottest trend right now is neon colors/color blocking. For the 80’s babies this is just a blast from the past so you may be thinking this isn’t new at all. And you’re right it isn’t new, however it’s foray into the wedding industry isn’t common at all so let’s run with it shall we. This colorful statement has always been a love of mine (I love the bright extra pop of color) so I would encourage that if you are THIS bride then ROCK out to it!

Consider showcasing your trendiness into your wedding by keeping it simple-ish. Here me out. You don’t have to have EVERY aspect of your wedding in neon colors. As a matter of fact..please DO NOT make every aspect of your wedding neon. That is a headache for you and your guests waiting to happen. Instead, infuse a few items with this colorful trend: For instance

NEON: cake, shoes, bridesmaids dress, linens, flowers, wedding gown sash and gloves, stationary = *bbm angry face*

NEON: shoes, bridesmaids dress, brides bouquet, stationary, favors = *bbm smiley face*

A little bit goes a looooooooong way and makes a bigger statement! Besides, you want to love your wedding today tomorrow and for years to come. Not look back on it and say what the hell was I thinking!

SO, are you THIS bride?
